Ingredients:
White Kabuli Channa – 1 cup
Onion – 1 medium sized
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
Pepper Powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp
Tomato Sauce – 2.5 tsp
Fresh Cream – Optional
Oil – 2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Method:
1. Soak channa overnight and pressure cook soaked channa for about 7-8 whistles.
2. Heat oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds.
3. After the cumin seeds splutter, add chopped onion and ginger garlic paste.Saute till the raw smell leaves.
4. Add boiled channa after onions turn transparent.
5. Add turmeric powder, garam masala, pepper powder, tomato sauce, fresh cream and mix well.
6. Finally add required salt and garnish with coriander leaves.
Note: Replace channa with paneer for Pepper Paneer.

In Diet?? Not preparing  Aapam because of high fat coconut milk?? This recipe will serve as the alternative side dish for gravy..

 Black channa is low in fat, high in dietary fiber and rich in vitamins and minerals.. You will get nutrients of 5 portions of fruits and vegetables in just  1 portion of black channa..Thus its a healthy addition to our diet..

I tried preparing this recipe in fish kulambu style.. It was awesome... You can feel like as if you are eating fish kulambu only..

Ingredients: (Recipe For 1)

Boiled Black Channa          - 1/4 cup
Small Onions                      - 8
Chopped Coconut              - 2 tbsp
Red Chilly                          - 2
Cumin Seeds                      - 1 tsp
Tamarind                            - 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder                - a pinch
Salt                                     - As required
Oil                                      - As required

Procedure:

  • Soak Black Channa overnight or soak it in hot water for 3-4 hours.. Boil it well. Extract tamarind juice from tamarind.
  • Heat oil in  a pan.. saute red chilly and cumin seeds.. After a second add small onions..
  • Saute till onions become translucent.. Grind along with coconut..
  • Heat oil in  the same pan.. Add onion-coconut paste.. Saute till the raw smell goes off.. Add tamarind extract, salt and turmeric powder.
  • Add enough water to the gravy and add boiled channa.
  • Cook the gravy until it thickens in low flame.
  • Serve with chapthi, roti , aapam or Idiyappam.. I served it with Aapam..

Chick Peas is a must-eat food which has high nutrition content.. Its a best source of dietary protein to vegetarians.. Other than preparing sundal, can prepare channa masala which can be served with chapathi , roti or even with chat items..

Ingredients:


Boiled White Channa              - 1 cup
Big Onion                     - 1
Tomato                          - 1
Ginger-Garlic Paste      - 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder           - 1tsp
Chilli Powder                 - 2 tsp
Cumin Powder              - 1 tsp
Coriander Powder         - 2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp

Salt                                 - To Taste
Oil                                   - As Required
Whole Garam Masala    - Each 2
Coriander Leaves           - For Garnishing

Procedure:

  1. Heat Oil in a pan.
  2. Add Whole Garam Masala
  3. Add onion
  4. Once it become translucent add Ginger Garlic Paste.
  5. Once its half done, add tomatoes.
  6. Add all the powder except Garam masala.
  7. Add enough water.
  8. Add boiled chick peas.
  9.  Add Garam Masala powder after the gravy mix up well
  10. smash half of the chick peas using a laddle.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve..
