Thakkali Rava Uppuma (Tomato Rava Uppuma)
Looking for an alternative for rava uppuma?? This Tomato rava uppuma will help you. Tanginess of tomato enhances uppuma taste. The recipe follows..
Recipe For :2
Preparation Time : 15 minutes
Ingredients:
Rava - 1 cup
Big Onion - 1
Tomato - 1
Chopped Ginger - 2 tsp
Green Chili - 1
Curry Leaves - few
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Channa Dal - 1/4 tsp
Cashew Nuts - 4-6 (optional)
Salt - As required
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Oil - 1 tbsp
Procedure:
- Dry roast rava till it leaves nice aroma. Take it out in a plate. Chop Big Onion and tomato finely. Slit Green chili. Make sure Ginger is finely chopped.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds , Urad dal and channa dal. If you wish you can also add Cashew nuts.
- After they splutter add chopped onion, Ginger , Green chili and curry leaves to it.
- When the onions turn translucent, add chopped tomatoes. After both onions and tomatoes are cooked well add 2.5 cups of water to it.
- Add also salt and Turmeric powder.
- When the water boils, add roasted rava in small instances. Keep on stirring in between to avoid the lumps.
- Cook for 3- 5 minutes till rava has absorbed all its water. Serve it hot... Tastes good with Coconut Chutney.. You can also add vegetables like carrot, peas to make the recipe much more healthier.

Oats Veg Uppuma
Recipe For : 2
Preparation Time : 20 minutes
Ingredients:
Oats - 1 cup
Carrot - 1 (medium size)
Fresh Peas - Handful
Big Onion - 1
Green Chillies - 2
Chopped Ginger - 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Salt - As required
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Channa dal - 1/4 tsp
Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - few
Oil - 1 tbsp
Water - 2. cups
Procedure:
- Dry roast oats till it leaves a beautiful aroma. See to that you don't burn it. After that take it out in a plate. Chop Big onion lengthwise. Slit Green Chilies. Chop carrot into little bigger pieces. Boil carrot and peas. Finely chop Ginger.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal.
- When they splutter, add chopped onions,Ginger, slit green chilies and curry leaves.
- After the onions turn translucent, add cooked carrot and peas.
- Add all the water, turmeric powder and salt.
- When the water boils , reduce the flame and add oats in small instances so that no lumps are formed.
- wait till the water evaporates and serve with sambar and Chutney Of your Choice.oats

Bread Uppuma
Bread Uppuma
Another interesting recipe with left-over bread... Bread Uppuma.. I would say its one of the evening snacks. You can prepare this in a jiffy. Here goes the recipe..
Serves : 1 person
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Bread Slices - 2
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Channa Dal - 1/4 tsp
Dry Red Chili - 1
Big Onion - 1 (small)
Curry Leaves - few
Salt - As required
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Oil - As required
Procedure:
- Break bread slices and add to a blender. Blend it for a few seconds just to crumble the bread. I have used Multi-grain bread. You can use any Bread of your choice.
- Chop big onion finely.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and Urad dal to it.
- When they splutter add Big onion and curry leaves to it. You can also add grated carrot and cabbage and chopped capsicum at this stage.
- When they are translucent, add crumbled bread.
- Add enough salt and turmeric powder.
- Saute for a minute and then serve it immediately.
- Enjoy your Bread Uppuma hot..

Idli Uppuma
Idli Uppuma
Another delicious recipe with Left-over Idli.. Idli Uppuma.. This has been my favorite, since childhood. You can prepare it very easily. Here is the recipe..
Ingredients:
Idli - 2
Big Onion - 1
Choppped Ginger - 1 tsp
Green Chilli - 1
Curry Leaves - few
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Channa Dal -1/4 tsp
Red Chilli - 1
Salt - As required
Oil - As required
Procedure:
- Smash Idli with hands. Add enough salt and mix well. This is done for even distribution of salt.
- Chop finely Big onion, Ginger and Green chilli. You can skip adding Green chilli also.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, Urad dal ,channa dal and Red Chilli.
- When they splutter, add chopped onions, ginger, green chilli and curry leaves.
- Add little salt and saute well.
- After the onions are translucent, add smashed idli.
- Saute for two to three minutes and switch off the flame.
- Serve uppuma hot!!!

Masala Poha (Red Aval Uppuma)
Poha is one of the healthiest Breakfast options.. It has high Iron content that 100gm of aval has 20mg of Iron.. Its the best way to get enough iron needed.. And its good for Diabetics too.. Here is the tastiest way to include healthy aval in your diet..
Here i am using Red Aval so it adds much more benefit.. Here you go!!!
Ingredients:
Red Aval - 1 cup
Big Onion - 1 small
Curry Leaves - Few
Salt - As required
Turmeric Powder
Lemon Juice - 1 tsp
For Sesoning:
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Channa Dal - 1 tsp
Peanut - 2 tsp
Red Chilli - 1
Procedure:
- Take aval in a bowl.. wash it well with water , Drain the excess water and keep it aside. This is done to soften the aval.
- Heat oil in a pan.. Add everything under seasoning. Once it gets cooked add finely chopped onions and curry leaves.
- Then aval, salt and turmeric powder.
- Saute for about 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
- Your healthy poha is ready..
Quick Tips:
If you soak aval in water, aval will become much more soggy . If you didn't use aval as soon as you wash and drain excess water, it will become dry.. So Keep an eye on that..
Can add vegetables if you want..

Samba Rava Bath
Samba Rava Bath
A very healthy dish which is very tasty too.. Ideal breakfast for Diabetic patients. Procedure is much similar to normal white rava. I have added only carrot and Peas. Can add Boiled potato, French beans, tomato too.. Garam Masala lovers can start the tempering with whole Garam Masal ( Cloves, Cinnamon, Aniseeds etc).
Ingredients:
Samba Rava ( Godhumai Rava) - 1 cup
Chopped and Boiled carrot - 1
Boiled Peas - Handful
Big Onion ( Chopped Lengthwise) - 1
Slitted Green Chillies - 1
Finely Chopped Ginger - 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Salt - As required
Oil - As required
Water - 2.5 cups
For Tempering:
Mustard seeds
Channa dhalUrad dhal
Curry Leaves
Procedure:
- Dry roast samba rava till it leaves a beautiful aroma. See to that you don't burn rava.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add the things mentioned under tempering
- Add Onion, ginger and Green chillies
- Add little water so that onion gets cooked softly.
- Add boiled peas and carrot.
- Add all the water, turmeric powder and salt.
- When the water boils , reduce the flame and add rava in small instances so that no lumps are formed.
- wait till the water evaporates and serve with Coconut Chutney
